We just received funding through UW-SP Research and Creative Activities Grant to begin a study looking at long term changes in lake thermal structure in small island lakes within the Great Lakes (Superior and Michigan).  Field work on Michipicoten Island in Ontario Canada (Lake Superior) and Washington Island in Wisconsin (Lake Michigan) begins in the summer of 2016!  The goal of this project is to quantify ecological change in lakes within the Great Lakes’ Basin over the last 150 years.  Multiple lakes throughout Wisconsin and island lakes within Lake Superior are being examined for shifts in diatom community structure since industrialization.
